Applicators's refreshment course
On Wednessday June 13th we organised a refreshment course for all our 2-C applicators. Especially for this purpose we invited our Canadian colleagues over to explain once more the right way of applicating and to teach us the clever skills that make working with the HVLP 2000 a lot easier.

Our applicators responded enthusiastically to the invitation. Our Canadian colleagues appreciated their active participation during the presentation.  A lot of questions were asked and experiences from the field were shared. And the spraying demonstration on the roof was also very instructive again.

Even for the most skilled applicator such a refreshment course is always good to attend. There's always something to learn, as was discovered by trainers Gary and Marcel van Til. If it is only that the valves of the hose should be turned to 'open' once the pump is started... ah well, they're only human!

Who, what, where
Each month we present to you a selection of projects executed by our applicators. Some of them are large than the other but with these examples we show you all the application possibilities of Liquid Rubber®. If you want to know more about one of these projects, please contact us.

Project                            : sealing inhome basement, Bussum (Netherlands)
Applicator                       : Vloeibaar Rubber Coatings Nederland (VRCN)

Description:
The contractor had a basement that was leaking. VRCN solved this problem by using
Liquid Rubber®.

First, the seams and joints in the basement were cleaned after which a primer was
applied to secure an optimal adhesion. Next, a layer of HighBuild S-200 was applied. In the still wet layer, a geotextile was used for extra strength. This layer finally was covered with a layer of HighBuild S-200 again.

When all the seams were cured out, the basement was spray-coated with a 2mm seamless Liquid Rubber® CreteSafe B-250 membrane (2-component).

At least this basement will not be damp anymore!

Project                            : restauration wooden balcony, Amsterdam (NL)
Applicator                       : Vloeibaar Rubber Coatings Nederland (VRCN)

Description:
When you are standing on your balcony, the least you expect is that it will hold you.
The house owners with a certain weathered wooden balcony were not so sure anymore
about it, so the balcony had to be restored. The old wooden plates were removed and
replaced by new tailor-made waterproofed plywood ones of 3 cm thickness.

It goes without saying that wood has to be protected against the influences of weather and water and so the surface and sides of the plates were coated with Liquid Rubber® T-300 anti-slip coating. Coloured flakes were strewn into the still wet layer. A final protective layer of Liquid Rubber® ClearCoat was applied to ensure a colourfast, durable and easy to clean protection.

The beauty of this system is that the plates can be treated even with bad weather. They only need to be assembled on location. Winter cold, summer heat, pouring rain: they all are of no consequence for the application of the coatings since it is done indoors.

The contractor was very satisfied and can use his balcony again.

In the spotlight: De Dakdokters from Amsterdam
In 'In the spotlight' we interview one of our distributors to share with you their experiences with Liquid Rubber®.

In this edition: De Dakdokters from Amsterdam

Dit keer spraken wij met De Dakdokters (literally translated: The Roof Doctors) uit Amsterdam. We spoke with Friso Klapwijk, owner and director.

Who is de Dakdokters?
"De Dakdokters consists of three idealistic but most of all practical entrepreneurs who design and execute roof gardens. That is our basis: smart designs, beautiful roof terraces, varied green roofs. Our company exists of gardeners, carpenters and designers who deliver beautiful designs, good plans and (not unimportant) the necessary clearances. To realise all these beautiful things, we have founded a subsidiary company, De Dakdichters, that takes care of a waterproof basis."

What makes you unique compared to other roofing specialists?
"Our USP is that for the end-consumer we are a 'one-stop-shop'. We restore the roof, design, take care of the clearance and our own people realise the beautiful plans. Next to that we also find that the professional contractor (the architect and the thatcher) appreciate working with a third party that can share ideas about the total concept. We work together with several architects, construction companies and thatchers. We either deliver the designs or realise a green roof."

Do you operate in Amsterdam and surroundings only?
"On the contrary! We aim at the big cities, such as Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Almere. We believe that the future of nature lies within the city. That is why we target the places where a lot of people live together. We find that especially in the cities people are more aware of the value of nature. Since the surface on ground level is not available, we believe that the future of nature lies up against the wall and on the roof."

How did you come across Liquid Rubber®?
"One of our employees presented it to us. Since he is known for his good ideas, we decided to buy a pale. And we liked it a lot!"

You work almost always with EPDM. Then why Liquid Rubber®?
"We use Liquid Rubber® especially for details. Roof exits, tricky details: because it is liquid and cures to a seamless membrane, these hard to reach spots can be sealed perfectly with Liquid Rubber®. It adheres to almost anything and with a brush you can reach the most difficult places".

What are your expectations of Liquid Rubber®?
"We expect Liquid Rubber® to be highly sustainable. And we realise sustainable roofs. Most important characteristic of sustainability is that a product maintains its value for a long time. That is why we see a lot of potential for Liquid Rubber®".

Swim4Cancer
Almost anyone knows someone who has or had cancer. Thanks to research an increasing number of cancers can be treated or even be cured. KWF Fight for Cancer (NL) collects money for research.

Simone Huisman (14) is the daugther of Wouter, our General Manager, and an active swimmer. Together with friend Maxime she initiated an event to raise money for KWF Fight for Cancer.

On Saturday July 7th they will swimm across de Poel in Aalsmeer (NL). A distance of nearly 6 km!

Maxime and Simone are looking for sponsors who want to support them. And since we embrace this initiative, we bring this to your attention.

If you want to support the girls, please donate at the special website of KWF:
On behalf of Simone, Maxime and KWF we thank you in advance for your contribution.

And of course we wish Simone and Maxime good luck!!

Full attention for Liquid Rubber at Gerritse Utrecht (NL)
Gerritse IJzerwaren has its own in-home company eduction program. Young people are stimulated to combine working experience with study. This way they practice what they learn and Gerritse is ensured of quality people. Smart thinking!

The students are enthusiastic and eager. We know from experience: Sabrina Joosten works at Gerritse in Utrecht (NL) and studies Commercial Entrepreneurship. An assignment from school was to design a promotional activity for one of the products from the Gerritse-assortment. Sabrina did not think about it very long: she spontaneously chose Liquid Rubber®.

She made her own instruction video to show how easy it is to apply Liquid Rubber®. Click on the right picture below to look at the video. Next to that she also realised a number of samples coated in Liquid Rubber, to demonstrate the application possibilities. And last but not least: Sabrina has a unique product presentation right next to the cash register where she will actively promote Liquid Rubber® during the next two weeks.

Every customer visiting the store will be given advise on the several products and how to use them. We could not wish for a better product promotor!

Expansion of our sales force
The sales of Liquid Rubber® go up steadily, but there is still a large number of selling points where the people are not aware enough about the products. In the meantime, the number of stores has become too big to be attended properly by the current sales force, so we have decided to expand.

Our colleague Kervin Bos will visit all points of sale in the Netherlands regularly. During his visits he will mainly look at what's needed at the store. Do they have product in stock, do they want to have a product demonstration, is extra advise necessary? Kervin will write it all down and will make sure that the dedicated Account Manager will take care of the follow-up.

This structure ensures a more regular contact with the points of sale and a more focused and swift follow-up by the right person.

We wish Kervin a lot of success!
