Newsletter #15 - September 2012

A good preparation is important
Most people that use Liquid Rubber are very enthusiastic. However, occasionally we do receive complaints; a coating that releases of the surface, a pond that still leaks, cracks in the top finish.

Fortunately this does not happen often but every complaint is one too many, isn’t it?

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), many problems are a result of an incorrect preparation. If the surface is not properly cleaned, there will be no proper adhesion. And if  the applied layer is not thick enough, a pond is not leak proof.

The success of our coatings depends on the right way of preparation and application. Therefore in this newsletter again a number of issues that need to be followed up properly.
  1. Clean the subsurface well: Remove all loose parts and be sure that the subsurface is free of dust and grease. This can be done by using a leaf blower, brush, vacuum cleaner or pressure washer. Remember that the surface needs to dry in case you use a pressure washer.
  2. Use a primer : Depending on the quality of the surface it is advisable to use a primer. In the end, it’s the applicator who decides whether to use a primer or not, but especially on aged or slippery surfaces we advice you to use a primer to ensure an optimal adhesion.
  3. Reinforce seams and cracks with geotextile: Geotextiles is an additional reinforcement for crack-bridging.
  4. Apply sufficient layer thickness: the recommended layer-thickness for a waterproof layer is 2 mm (when fully cured). For the recommended layer-thickness and the necessary coverage per m2 consult the instructions on the label.
  5. Sufficient drying time is very important.: Liquid Rubber® HB S-200’s optimum drying time is 48 hours but the product is resistant to rainwater after 24 hours. The 2-component sprayable coatings are touch dry within minutes but are fully cured after 48 hours. We advice you to respect this curing time and to wait with additional treatments until the HB S-200 is properly dried.
When you doubt about the correct treatment of the subsurface, the use of geotextile or a primer, contact us. We are happy to give you advice. After all, your success is our success.

Green staircase in the Amsterdam Arena.
The staircase on the attached picture is green!

Now don’t start testing the color settings of your computer display. The colors you see are correct. This stage in the Amsterdam Arena is sprayed with our environmentally friendly, “green” T-300, the coating with structure and color from our range of products.

The metal exterior staircase at the Amsterdam Arena used to be very slippy after rainy weather or due to the air humidy at the evening when most games are played. To avoid people from falling down the stairs, the stairs were coated with Liquid Rubber® T-300 with antislip structure. Because of this coatings excellent adhesion to metal surfaces it ensures excellent rigidity of the substrate, whereby the risk of slipping is reduced. Obviously everything is finished in the beautiful red color of Ajax whereby the result is a tight (but not slippery!) picture.

Airthight construction with Liquid Rubber
In the previous newsletter you could read that Liquid Rubber is not only used for waterproofing but alsof for realizing airtight frames.

Independent tests,  done by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre  (CCMC), measured a value of 0,0004 L/(s.m2). As a result Liquid Rubber belongs to a group of several products who measured the lowest air permeability.

When you seal frames with Liquid Rubber you prevent the ingress of unwanted air currents and you are assured of a sustainable energy saving solution.

The complete test report is available on our website or click here.

HVAC installation trade fair Brussel
On Thursday 20th and Friday the 21th of September the HVAC installation trade fair took place in Brussels.

In the previous newsletter you could read that we started a partnership with Bison International. They will edit the retail channels with Griffon HBS-200 Liquid Rubber. The HVAC installation trade fair in Brussels was the first trade fair were this new product from the Griffon range was demonstrated.

Of course, we as the supplier, had sent our most experienced ‘product demonstrator’ to the trade fair so that he could explain and show every possibility of Griffin HBS-200 Liquid Rubber. The responses were very positive and we are pleased with the initial response of the Belgian public. We hope that it results in an explosive increase in sales!
